About the LSU Foundation
History
The LSU Foundation was chartered in 1960
as a nonprofit, tax-exempt, public foundation comprising individuals and family
members who are leaders in business, professions, and civic affairs and who are
concerned with the advancement of LSU. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization
under the U.S. tax code. By charter, the activities of the Foundation are limited
to the benefit of three units of the LSU System. The other campus units of the LSU
System have separate foundations.
The LSU Foundation is governed by the board of directors who are elected by the
members. The staff of the LSU Foundation are employed under agreement with the University.
The operating budget of the Foundation is financed entirely with private resources;
no University or state funds are used. The LSU Foundation provides the central development
and endowment management functions for the University at no cost to the University.

Mission
The purpose of the LSU Foundation is to
foster private financial support for LSU and A&M College, the LSU Agricultural
Center, and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center. The Foundation encourages and receives
capital gifts and bequests for the University, including both restricted and unrestricted
gifts. The Foundation also manages most of the investments and serves as trustee
for most of the endowed funds and other private assets contributed for the benefit
of the University.
The Foundation's development program supports the activities of LSU academic units
by attracting contributions for scholarships, professorships, endowed chairs, library
resources, computers and laboratory equipment, research studies, works of art, musical
instruments, construction and renovation of facilities, and many other purposes
that cannot be financed entirely with state funds. A priority of the Foundation
is to build the University's endowment to provide reliable resources for the future.
The LSU Foundation cooperates with the LSU Alumni Association and the Tiger Athletic
Foundation. The three foundations form a consortium for voluntary financial support
of the University. More...
